During the historic summit between Kim Jong-un and Donald Trump in Singapore, the North Korean leader committed to, in return for security guarantees, foregoing the Denuclearisation<\/a> to the Korean Peninsula. At the very first meeting between a US President and a North Korean leader, the atmosphere was cordial, with a firm handshake. The rhetoric from both sides had also been positive in the lead-up, an astonishing U-turn after decades of animosity. In the past, Trump called Kim Jong-un \u201eLittle Rocket Man,\u201c while Pyongyang referred to him as a \u201ementally deranged dotard.\u201c.
\nIn the run-up to the summit, Kim Jong-un also visited South Korea<\/a> and made his wish for peace on the peninsula clear. Nevertheless, the American public still regards him as one of the greatest threats to peace and security in the world. In a survey<\/a>, which Politico shortly before the events in Singapore carried out<\/a>, Kim Jong-un was named as the top threat to world peace\/security by 43 per cent of respondents.
\nWladimir Putin followed in second place with 42 percent, while many Americans still do not trust their own president on the world stage. Trump rounded out the top three with 26 percent. The survey revealed an interesting partisan divide: among Democrats, Trump is seen as the most threatening world leader with 48 percent, a figure higher than that for Putin (46 percent) and Kim Jong-un (40 percent).
