A Story from the Neflental: The Great Trial in the Gleaming Heights

In Glanzhoch, when summer shines brightest in the Neflental, meadows, forests, and lakes gleam in gold and sapphire blue. Sunbeams dance on the water, and the air shimmers almost like amber. By the shore, the valley's inhabitants sit and celebrate together. Colourful lanterns fly everywhere. The young friends in the Neflental look forward to the most beautiful and vibrant time of the year.

In the middle of this joyous time, Rosa Immergrün hears about the „Great Learning Champion Test“. Everyone who participates can show what they have learned this year. The children and young people are already very excited. Because the best group gets to open the festival at the end and let the first lantern rise into the summer light. Rosa Immergrün doesn't think for long and signs up with her friends.

Willingness to learn in the Bernblossom Grove

On the morning of the big exam, all the groups gather in the Bernblossom Grove. Everywhere smells sweet of honey and summer, and the golden-yellow blossoms are in full glory. The air is warm and full of anticipation. Rosa Immergrün immediately sees how many valley dwellers are already practising diligently. Some are repeating the times tables, others are reading stories or solving riddles.

But a few children murmur: „I'll never manage that! Learning is exhausting and too difficult!“ Rosa Immergrün smiles and says: „But learning together is always more fun. Start small and stay curious! Ask if you don't understand something. That way, it gets easier from one time to the next.“

Become a learning champion!

The tasks are beginning. Sometimes the children stumble because they can't solve a question. Then they look at each other and think together. Rosa Immergrün always suggests: „Let's think aloud and share our ideas! If we don't know what to do next, we don't give up.“ Every correct solution brings joy – small mistakes are also allowed, because that's how the teams learn the most.

With every riddle, their courage grows. All the children cheer when they finally manage a particularly difficult task. Soon they feel how learning can bring joy, because everyone sticks together and no one gives up. Some find maths great, others love tricky words – everyone brings something special.

Lanterns rise to the sky when learning succeeds

When the exam ends, Rosa Immergrün and her friends sit in a circle. They are a little tired, but very proud. On the shore of the small lake, the first campfire flickers, and the lanterns are painted in bright colours. At sunset, the best learning champion will be chosen. But Rosa Immergrün knows: everyone who tried is a winner. Because they were brave and never gave up.

The golden summer air glows as the children release their lanterns. Everyone watches the colourful lights glide into the sky – a sight that gives courage to face new challenges time and again. Together, anything can be achieved! A willingness to learn ensures this: those who remain curious, practise, ask questions and work with others, become learning champions themselves in the Neflental.

What do we learn from this?

Even though it is sometimes difficult, it is worth trying new things and not giving up. Learning is fun together with friends. Mistakes are part of it, and practice helps us to get better. If we are curious, ask questions bravely, and always do our best, we can all become little or big learning champions – not just in the Neflental, but everywhere we remain curious.
