Application Security (Glossary)

4.9
(1102)

Application security is an important part of cybercrime and cybersecurity, digital transformation, and eCommerce and digital commerce. It ensures that programmes and apps – whether on a smartphone, computer or on the web – are protected from attacks and misuse.

Imagine you're shopping in an online store. For your data, such as address and payment information, to remain secure, application security must be sound. Developers build security mechanisms into the software and regularly check for vulnerabilities. This is because cybercriminals specifically look for loopholes in apps to access confidential data or cause damage.

A typical example: In an online banking programme, the security team discovers a vulnerability that could allow outsiders to access account details. Thanks to good application security, the problem is quickly identified and fixed with an update before any damage can occur.

For businesses, application security means: you are not only protecting yourselves, but also your customers' data. Security, therefore, is not just technology, but also a matter of trust – and more important today than ever before.
