With humour through the day in the Neflental

Something funny is always happening in Neflental, especially during the dark time of year. Many Evergreens live in the Fern Meadows. Their houses grow there between giant bracken ferns. When you stand on the roof terrace of John Evergreen's house, you can even see the glittering lake of the Flossians. The Fern Meadows are a place full of laughter and fun, even when there's a frost night outside.

A very special winter's evening

On a frosty night, when the snow glitters and the full moon shines through the bare branches, the evergreens like to gather around the big fire. The frost glitters smoky grey and silver-white on every branch. A faint tinkling of bells can be heard from the valley. The stars in the sky are shining particularly brightly tonight, and the mountains cast mysterious shadows in the night. On such a silvery night, the evergreens decided to have a sledding race.

John Immergrün shouted: „Who can slide down the hoarfrost ramp the fastest?“ Rosa Immergrün laughed because she knew her ramp was particularly wild. The ramp was made of slippery ice that sparkled like crystals. Many Immergrüns tried their luck. They flew, tumbled, or landed in the soft snow. Sometimes one crashed right into a fern bush, and the whole village laughed along. Because going through the day with humour was simply in the Immergrüns' blood.

Laughter is infectious

In the midst of the commotion, Rosa had an idea. She stuffed snow into her gloves and exclaimed, „Snowball time!“ The Evergreens cheered and flung small, fast snowballs through the air. Even John Evergreen got one right on the nose. But instead of being annoyed, he laughed louder than everyone else. „Laughter is the only thing that keeps you warm on frosty nights!“ he shouted, and everyone agreed.

Rosa ran laughing through the silvery-white snow-capped mountains. In every snowflake, she saw a bright memento of that fun night. The starry sky above the fern meadows grew a little brighter. The voices of the evergreens echoed through the valley, mingling with the spherical chime of bells. No one was cold anymore because the laughter warmed them from within.

With humour through the day and through the night – the secret of the Evergreens

When everyone later returned to their moss-green houses, they told jokes for a long time. Rosa made everyone giggle one last time when she wore a fern leaf as a scarf. „This way I'll stay warm – and look very chic!“ she exclaimed. The other Evergreens clapped their hands, laughing, and felt safe. The long frost nights were never boring in Neflental because the Evergreens knew: going through the day with humour makes everything easier, even in the deepest winter.

What do we learn from this?

He who laughs remains cheerful, even when the snow lies metres high and the night is particularly long. In the Neflental, the evergreens show us that friendship and a good laugh warm the heart. Thus, they master every frosty night and look forward to the next adventure.
